Understanding Session Replay player

To playback recorded sessions, you need a Session Replay player. Zarget provides you an advanced player with many features for the best experience. This guide will help you know in depth about the player and its controls.

Zarget’s Session Replay player is launched when you click on any of the sessions in Session tab. If a session has been viewed already, then the session name appears with a violet colored font while the new and unviewed sessions appear with black colored fonts.

The Session Replay player has three segments:

  • Activity Area
  • Session Details
  • Session Events

Player

Here you can watch the recorded session video of your visitors. It has an area in which the session videos run and to its below, you can find the timeline and other controls of the player.

Above the player, you can find the the web address corresponding to the session video currently running, along with the total running time of that session.

Timeline in the player displays the total running time of that particular session. In the timeline, the color markers represent the activities of the visitor in your site.

  • Yellow - Denotes that the user/visitor has scrolled through the page at that timeframe.
  • Red - Denotes that the user/visitor has clicked something in the page at that timeframe.
  • Blue Stripe/line - Denotes that the user/visitor has given an input to the page at that timeframe.

Below the timeline is a set of player controls such as,

  • Play/Pause button - Used to start and to pause the running session. You can also click on the player screen to start or to pause the session.
  • Notification space - Displays what activity the user/visitor did in that particular time at the webpage.
  • Speed control - Used to control the speed of the running session. By default, the speed is 0.5x. You can select the convenient speed from the list of options - 1x, 2x, 4x or 8x.
  • Settings - Under this option, you have three important session video controls in the form of Enable/Disable toggle button. They are
    Skip Idle States - Enable this option to skip the part of the session video where the user/visitor was idle and did no activity such as scrolling, clicking, etc.
    Show click labels - Enable this option to display a red dot label in the place where the user/visitor has made a click on the webpage.
    Show mouse path - Enable this option to show the entire mouse movement of your user/visitor throughout his journey in the webpage.
  • Full screen mode - Used to view the session video in fullscreen mode.

Here, you can find all the details about the session video currently played in the Session Replay player.

The details displayed under View Session Details are,

  • Session Name - Displays the name of the session video currently being played.
  • IP - Displays the IP address of the user/visitor whose activities are recorded as session and currently being played.
  • Country - Shows the country name in which that particular session video has been recorded.
  • Device - Displays the device that the user/visitor used to enter the webpage in which the session has been recorded.
  • OS - Displays the name of the OS from which the user/visitor activities has been recorded as a session.
  • Browser - Displays the browser name in which users/visitors activities in a web page has been recorded as a session.
  • Referer - Displays the URL if the user/visitor came from other referral site/medium/link.
  • Recorded on - Shows the date on which the session is recorded.

Session Events

The Session Events part has the list of all user/visitor activities and also the list of elements in which a particular activity happened.

For example, if the user/visitor made a click on the right arrow of the carousel slider, then under Session Events, it appears as click activity and to its below, the corresponding element name is also shown.

You can click on any event listed here and in the player, the session video starts playing from the timeframe where that specific event occurred.

With the help of these details, you can gain accurate insights on

  • Which activity did user/visitor make the most (Example : Click or input),
  • Where the user/visitor clicks the most,
  • Whether the web page is structured in such a way that two elements didn’t get convoluted.

Now, you can start watching the recorded sessions and analyze your site to learn visitors’ behaviour and to improve conversions.
